This is a Pen and Ink original artwork of an Alaskan Malamute in one of its traditional roles as a ‘pack dog’ carrying supplies over an Alaskan landscape. For the background I used an old photograph of Alaska in the gold rush era as reference, which showed a barren stretch of land with partially melted snow and mountains rising in the background. Many people think malamutes were solely used as sled dogs in the early years, but they have always been a multi-purpose working dog used for freighting, hauling village supplies through deep snow, hunting seals and packing supplies on their backs.
